Andrew Ritchie, founder and director of Brompton Bicycle Ltd. was made an MBE, for “services to business and to international trade.” The British honours system is one of the oldest in the world. It has evolved over 650 years as the country has found means of recognising merit, gallantry and service. Honours lists are published twice a year: at New Year and in mid-June on the date of the Queen’s official birthday.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is an order of chivalry established on 4 June 1917 by George V of the United Kingdom. The Order includes five classes in civil and military divisions.

El 16 de noviembre fui a visitar Heinz Stücke en Paris donde tiene su base, mejor dicho donde tiene una cama y todos sus recuerdos de casi 50 años en bicicleta. Heinz sigue viajando en bici por que es el único que sabe hacer. Además como el dice, la vida en Paris es demasiado caro para el. Nunca ha cotizado y por lo tanto no le corresponde una jubilación. El único tesoro que tiene es su archivo fotográfico y todo el material que ha acumulado durante todos estos años viajando en bicicleta.

Aunque oficialmente empezó su vuelta al mundo en 1962, Heinz ya estaba en Iraq en el año 1958 con su bicicleta Miele (si, antes hacian bicicletas también). Este año hizo la Trans-Amazonia: 8.000 kilómetros en bicicleta de Brasil hasta Colombia pasando por Peru y Equador. Fue según Heinz uno de las rutas más duras de su carrera.

En este video Heinz explica el plan de su próximo viaje: los Emirates, Singapore, Christmas Islands, Cocos Islands, Singapore, Hong Kong y Japón. Heinz utilizará una Brompton M6R para este viaje.

Las nuevas incorporaciones del equipo Bike Tech han mostrado su forma durante el Campeonato Catalan de Ciclocross en Santa Coloma de Farners. Mercè Pacios se proclamó Campeona de Catalunya y Ramon Sagués se quedó con un 5º puesto en la general y 4º élite. El resultado para Carlos Gaspar fue un 15º en la general y 11º élite. Ramon y Mercè han sido seleccionados por los próximos Campeonatos de España de Ciclocross.Felicidades por estos resultados fantásticos. Estamos seguros que será el principio de un nuevo año con muchos premios para el equipo Bike Tech Racing Team.

L’equip Bike Tech s’ha preparat a consciència per als IV Campionats del Món de Brompton. I han preparat una bicicleta molt especial, amb una postura molt esportiva, amb rodes molt més lleugeres i aerodinàmiques, així com un sillín esportiu. Esperem que aquest any puguin portar el títol de campions a casa. Sort!

At many BART stations in the Bay Area you can park in outdoor lockers or inside Bike stations.  New York City has also started to explore granting more on-street space for cyclists to park like here on Bedford Avenue.

Every time we manage to snag an interview with Jan Gehl, it ends up being one of the coldest days of the Fall. But that didn’t stop the Danish livable streets maestro from grabbing a table in New York City’s new wonderful public space, Madison Square, to chat with Streetsblog’s Editor-in-chief Aaron Naparstek.

It was just a little over two years ago we talked with Mr. Gehl in the iconic Times Square “bowtie” where he offered up a sobering evaluation of the lack of public space in NYC. You can watch that here. But thanks to recent initiatives by the NYC DOT, these days the future looks more promising for pedestrians and cyclists. During their conversation Mr. Gehl and Aaron covered much ground including the rapid pace of the transformation of our streets, the concepts behind the fluidity of traffic, the release of World Class Streets: Remaking New York City’s Public Realm, and the democratic process - with a shout out to our future 44th prez!
